Nicole Oga, Tehtävälähtöinen tanssi / Task based dance
Through imagery and sensation based improvisation explorations and tasks we will cultivate body awareness, spatial awareness, and interaction with our classmates. Bodily awareness and noticing our movement habits prepares us for partnering, both with the environment and with other humans. Partnering is seen through a wide perspective, where it is not only partnering through touch but can also be connecting and communicating through our other senses.
Nicole Oga (she/her/hers) is a radical thinking dance artist and pedagogue who approaches her work through an intersectional lens that is influenced by abolition, liberation, anti-racist, and black feminist praxis. In 2012 she received her BA in Dance from the University of California San Diego and has been performing and teaching for the past 10 years, with Disco Riot, Dance & Company, Visionary Dance Theatre, The Movement Initiative. Nicole is a constant student who believes life is a continuous journey of learning, growing, and evolving. In her work she regularly questions and evaluates her practices and methodologies to ensure she is inclusive and in true solidarity with her community - listening to, collaborating with, and following the lead of those who are most impacted. Nicole cultivates genuine empathy, compassion, and kindness, which will transform the world into an equitable society where all are truly liberated.
